Introduction

The Grand Valley Soccer Association (GVSA) consists of 25+ clubs, covering an area that stretches from Holland to Hastings to Traverse City. The clubs form the 450+ teams that play in GVSA, through open tryouts. Tryouts for the 2008-2009 season may be held any time on or after June 15, 2008. If the team is playing in GVSA, it is a statewide rule that they may not be held earlier than June 15. Most clubs hold their tryouts between June 15-June 30, although tryouts for U15-U19 Boys' teams are frequently held in late Fall or Winter, since these teams do not play in the Fall. However this will vary from club to club, so make sure you check each club's dates.

Clubs are listed below by the geographic area they primarily serve at the bottom of this page. Your player may try out for as many teams as he or she wishes, subject to each clubs' rules and restrictions. Please check the information for each club you are interested in. It is important for your family to know about, and feel comfortable with the club, as well as the individual team and coach. Please note that your player is trying out for a team for an entire year, not just the fall season.

Premier Soccer Clubs

In addition to the clubs that comprise GVSA, GVSA recognizes Premier Clubs. Currently, the Alliance FC, Grand Rapids Crew, Rangers FC and PASS are recognized in this manner. All four form teams that will represent GVSA in the Michigan State Premier Soccer League. There are boys and girls teams in the U13 through U18 age groups.

Premier teams are typically the highest level teams and coaches in our area, and the vast majority of local All-Conference, All-Area and All-State high school players play for a premier team. Most premier players wish to continue playing at the intercollegiate level, and premier clubs are uniquely qualified to provide guidance in this area.

Premier tryouts are open to all players, and there is no charge for them. They hold their tryouts as soon as possible on or after June 15, so that interested players will learn as soon as possible whether that have made a Premier team or not.

Individual Premier Teams

In addition, GVSA can recognize and approve individual teams for Premier play. These teams must apply to the GVSA Board (with their clubs permission) by February 1st of each year and after GVSA Board approval, be sponsored into MSPSP. In addition, any team advancing to the MSYSA State Cup quarterfinals may apply and be automatically approved. These teams will also represent GVSA in the Michigan State Premier Soccer League (MSPSL) and their tryouts are also free (this is an MSPSL Rule).

MRL Teams

MRL teams are teams that have earned the right to play in the MIDWEST REGIONAL LEAGUE and are typically affiliated with a Premier Club. This league represents the highest level that most players can attain.
